In Memoriam: Famed Racing Jornalist Chris Economaki Dies at 91
He was Jim McKay’s go-to guy for ABC Sports broadcasts during such races as the Indianapolis 500. “Now, to Chris Economaki in the pits.” To a more exclusive number of National Speed Sport News readers, he was known for 60 years as The Editor. Chris Economaki died September 28, 2012, aged 91. The cause of death was not immediately available. Economaki was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 15, 1920, to a Greek immigrant father and the great-niece of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Economaki was 9 years old when he saw his first race at the Atlantic City Board Track in New Jersey.
